world's cheapest laptop


NEW DELHI, KOMPAS.com - India has come up with the world's cheapest laptop, a touch-screen computers worth 35 U.S. dollars or approximately Rp 335 000.
Human Resource Development Minister of India, Kapil Sibal, this week revealed that computer equipment at cheap prices that are designed for students, and says his department has started talks with the owner of a global manufacturer to begin mass production. "We have reached the stage (development) today, motherboards, chips, processors, connectivity, all cumulatively worth about 35 U.S. dollars, including memory, screen, everything," Sibal said in a speech.

He said the touch-screen device is equipped with internet browser, PDF reader and video conferencing facilities but the hardware is created with sufficient flexibility to incorporate all new components to suit the wearer.

Sibal said the computer device based on Linux is expected to be introduced for institutions of higher education began in 2011 but the goal is reduce the price further to 20 U.S. dollars and eventually finished 10th U.S. dollars.

The device was developed by a team of researchers in major technological institutions in India, Indian Institute of Technology and Indian Institute of Science. India spent as much as three percent of its annual budget on school education and literacy rate has increased to include 64 percent of the 1.2 billion citizens.

However, various studies have shown many students can barely read or write and most government schools do not have adequate facilities.
