Found, Ancient Life in the Seabed

KOMPAS.com - Some Australian scientists discovered a strange prehistoric marine life in hundreds of kilometers beneath the Great Barrier Reef.

It was found when held before the mission that was not done to document an endangered species due to warming oceans.

Ancient life in the form of ancient sharks, giant fish that contain fish oil, a collection of hard-skinned animals, and primitive species of squid in a shell (nautilus), which was captured from the remote camera at Osprey Reef.

Lead researcher Justin Marshall, Thursday (15/07/2010), said his team also has discovered several unknown species of fish, including the "prehistoric six-gill shark."

Thanks to the research findings using a special camera that is sensitive to dim light and is designed to solicit the bottom of the ocean.

"Most animals that we are witnessing is a kind we would expect, some we did not expect, and some animals that we have not identified," said Marshall of the University of Queensland.

"There are sharks really we did not expect, that similar false cat shark, who truly have a fin behind the bizarre," Marshall said as quoted by French news agency AFP.

The team uses the tuna's head at the end of the stick to attract the attention of all the animals, who live far below the reach of light.

Marshall said the research has become increasingly urgent due to recent oil spill was affecting the Great Barrier reff "which is listed as world heritage, and the increasing threats to biodiversity due to heating and oxidation of the oceans in the world.

"One we wanted to do with researching deep-sea life is to discover what was there, before we remove them," Marshall said.

"We do not know what lives down there, and our cameras can now record the behavior and life in Australia's largest biosphere, the deep ocean," he said.

Scientists have warned that the attractiveness of an area of 345 000 square kilometers is under serious threat because of global warming and endless chemicals threaten to kill marine species and cause the spread of disease.

China's coal ship Shen Neng an injury during the three-meter rip in the coral reef when the ship was run aground while trying to take shortcuts on 3 April. As a result of these events, the tons of oil spread over the land of culture and nature reserve famous.

A total of 200 000 liters of heavy fuel burst into the waters south of coral reefs are in March, when a container ship full of fertilizer fell from Pacific Adventurer, the flag of Hong Kong, during a raging storm. Hull was pierced.

This event's worst oil spill ever experienced in Australia. Marshall said the present study camera will be sent to the Gulf of Mexico, who faces oil leak, oil leak to monitor the impact of marine life there.
